AbstractPre-drilling risk assessment is important to reduce lost circulation and well collapse in the process of intelligent drilling guidance. While drilling in fractured formations, especially in deep and ultra deep areas, the pressure bearing capacity of the wellbore is frequently affected by the natural fracture zone in the formation, which is prone to drilling accidents such as lost circulation and well collapse. Diffraction wave is an effective method to describe natural fracture zones, benefit from its sensitivity to small geological bodies such as fractures. However, the current diffraction seismic imaging results usually have low signal-to-noise ratio which is difficult to be directly applied to pre drilling risk assessment. By analyzing the amplitude energy of root mean square of diffraction data, this paper develops a structural smoothing technology suitable for diffraction imaging, and proposes a description method of natural fracture zone based on diffraction data, which can describe the spatial distribution of natural fracture zone with higher signal to noise ratio. The method has been applied in a drilling in deep fractured formation in Shunbei area. The predicted results of the target interval have a good corresponding relationship with the leakage and sticking of the actual drilling, which verifies the effectiveness of the method.
